About Us

The Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) was formed in 1971 to provide support to professionals involved in the management of law firms, corporate legal departments and government legal agencies. Headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois, the ALA is an international organization with more than 9,000 members in 20 countries, including the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada and New Zealand.

ALA’s mission is to “improve the quality of management in legal services organizations; promote and enhance the competence and professionalism of legal administrators and all members of the management team; and represent professional legal management and managers to the legal community and to the community at large.” Today’s legal administrators face challenges in a wide array of areas including technology, human resources, finance, facilities, marketing and practice development. This is where ALA comes in, by offering the resources, education, services and information needed to help solve these challenges.

ALA is structured into six regions, with a total of 108 active chapters. The New Orleans Chapter is a part of Region 4, which includes Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah.

The Association’s information packed website, www.alanet.org , provides the legal management team and legal community with news and information about ALA’s educational programs and member services, print and online management resources, online educational opportunities and jobs available in legal management. The site also provides links to more than 250 law-related management resources and organizations and vendors in the legal industry

The New Orleans Chapter’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee spearheads our ongoing efforts to develop a work environment that:

  • Ensures equal opportunities for all members and business partners
  • Promotes diversity at all levels of the chapter
  • Encourages teamwork and participation, permitting the representation of all members’ perspectives
  • Supports chapter and member contributions to the communities we serve, promoting a greater understanding and respect for diversity
  • Provides tools and resources to members that are required to lead and increase diversity within their respective law firms
  • Providing guidance, education, and resources to members in support of the National ALA Diversity Initiative
  • Offering diversity and inclusion education and resources, including presentations and speakers to help our members develop, plan, and implement a successful diversity program in the workplace
  • Commits to participating in the Diversity and Inclusion Scorecard program and earning the ‘We Participate’ seal issued by the National ALA’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion
